Capt. Valentin Mavrinac has been lecturing at CIM since 2015. He is the Director of Shipping Studies at the Institute. Capt. Mavrina received his Ing. of Maritime Transport-Nautics from the Faculty of Maritime Studies, University of Rijeka, after which he went to join the ocean-going merchant vessel as Deck Cadet. In 2012, he obtained an MSc. in Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour from Cyprus International Institute of Management and in 2013 became QSHE-Marine Superintendent with his employer. In 2014, he enrolled on a Distance-Learning PhD in Management with a focus in Human Resource Management at Walden University, Minneapolis, USA, where he is now Final Status PhD candidate. He has been a visiting guest lecturer at the University of Rijeka (Faculty of Maritime Studies) since 2015 and, later that year, he began lecturing at the Cyprus Institute of Marketing (Limassol). His research interests include: HRM policies and practice in Shipping Industry; improving seafarers’ skills through Computer Based Training; lifelong learning in shipping industry; diversity and multiculturalism in shipping environment and their effects on performance; talent management in shipping industry; ethics and morality within the shipping industry and the effects of corporate social responsibility; selection and evaluation criteria used for senior shipboard personnel; e-navigation and its impact on safety and well-being of seafarers; and computer-based distance-learning in shipping industry.
