Whether you are in your first year of studies or your last, time management is an essential skill that if you haven’t already developed-you must. In order to excel both in your work as a student, a professional, and in future high positions, you must first know how to manage your time correctly.
First- Dedicate your time.
Dedicating your time and prioritizing your work is the first step in good time management. By making a prioritized list of the things you need to accomplish, and setting an allotted amount of time for each, you will not only get more done in a less amount of time, but you will stay organized, and learn how much time each assignment needs to get done- which overall, will help you better plan and organize for your future assignments.
Second- It’s ok to say NO.
There will always be distractions. Whether it is someone asking you for a favour, an invitation to party, your favourite team is playing, or anything else- Whatever it may be, your school work comes first, and although it may be hard, and may not always feel right, it’s ok to say NO if it means getting your work done in time, and getting it done the right way.
Third- Don’t sweat the small stuff.
“Sweating the small stuff” simply means paying too much attention to minute details. Even though it is important to strive for perfection, and pay attention to every aspect of your work, if you give too much notice to a small detail that in the end doesn’t make a big difference, you will wind up being inefficient, and wasting precious time on something minuscule, when in the end, that time could have been used for a bigger, more important aspect of your work.
Fourth- Turn your regular work into habit
We know your course work changes regularly, but surely, there is work which you know you have to do either every week, or possibly even every day. Single out what those assignments or projects are, and turn them into habits by doing them in a consistent manner every week. Seeing them as something you do out of nature will allow you to complete it from a different perspective, which in the end will help you complete it more efficiently, and effectively.
